1839 - Methodist
quarterly meeting held in "little meeting house" in Van Buren. Stone
foundation is all that remains in the Van Buren cemetary.
ca 1841 - "The next agitation for a town was the location of the county seat. A Mr. Goodman had a mill about five miles southeast of Linn site, and this land was bought and laid out into the town of Van Buren to secure the seat of justice; a valiant effort was made, but in vain, and the place soon died out. In 1843 M. C. Davis and others
made a feeble effort to remove the county seat to Van Buren again, bit
in vain. (17 )
Robert Goodman owned and
operated a mill there. There was also a blacksmith shop and a brewery.

spring in the early 1900's, with bath houses and a large hotel. Fire
destroyed the hotel in 1920. (11)
Today Vichy has a few business', churches and the Masonic Lodge which moved here from Bloomington (Lois). |

by Vienna, to Edina.
Also, from Medora to Vienna. Also, from Osage City, by Taos, Castle Rock, Westphalia, and Maries, to Vienna. Also, from Vienna to Rolla. Also, from Vienna to Tuscumbia. (15) 1874 - The county seat twentythree miles northwest of Rolla, Phelps County and nineteen miles northeast of Dixon, Pulaski County, it's nearest station on the A.&P.R.R., is pleasently situated on high rolling land, about two miles west of the Gasconade. It was settled in 1855, has a population of about 250 and contains a neat brick court-house, a newspaper - The Courier, published by A.P. & A.J.Rittenhouse, two churches - Catholic and Methodist, one hotel, four stores and one wagon shop.
